"STAGING A RESPONSE TO HATE" (Event Flyer)
Part of the "Not In Our Town" Series
Date: Tuesday, October 30, 2007
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Place: Columbia Public Library Friends Room, 100 W Broadway

This month's focus will be on creating a better understanding among Columbia citizens about the issues that confront individuals from the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgendered) community. In the documentary "Staging a Response to Hate", cast members of a school production about the murder of gay student Matthew Shepard are confronted with a real-life version of the story when a local transgendered teen is murdered. The experience becare the catalyst for students, parents, residents and civic leaders to take action against hate.

There will be opportunity to listen and to engage in honest, respectful dialogue. The purpose is not to convince or convert, debate or argue. All are welcome, regardless of personal perspective or life experience.

Light refreshments will be served. Free "NOT IN OUR TOWN" buttons!

I just got done from a nice little sit down while reading volumes 1-6 of 'Young Avengers'. And, quite frankly, I wasn't expecting much. Because..well...it's a /superhero/ comic and my elitism got in the way of me...well, imagining anything with superheros [however gay they may be] being good.

Well...it was. Rather...I think I'm starting to like Superhero comics and I'm ashamed. It's just that they're really easy, fun reads and the characters are so flawed.

And then theres Asguardian and Hulkling. [which, always makes me laugh because Asguardian = assguardian.] And, in the comic they actually made a joke about his oh-so gay name.

But yeah, it's canon gay. And it's not 'HOMG-FANGIRL-GAY!" It's like...cute and fluffy and subtle.

Yeah---I like something SUBTLE.

Last night was fabulous. Jchan and I discussed fandom for a good three hours.

I feel refreshed.

I'm fairly amazed. Today, at dinner, I sat silently eating French Toast and, after Amanda and Harry exchanged a few choice words I politely excused myself in a way that made everyone laugh and go, "LOLOL. She's going back to bed."

About ten minutes later they were yelling at each other. I really could care less what they were arguing about...but, I'm tired of it? I'm not sad, or mad, just extremely frustrated. When I got back up Jeanette was giving Amanda the advice of, "Just don't talk to him."

To which I wanted to reply, but did not, "Maybe we shouldn't be a family then. I mean, if we can't even talk to each other without arguing, there is a serious problem. Beyond that, I'm sick and tired of hearing you guys talk about Harry behind his back. If I dared to do that with Jeanette; every one would just get angry at me."

I think they forget, that regardless of all his annoyingness, he's still my dad. Even if I'm excited about moving away and all that.

Or they just completely disregard any feelings I have. That could be it as well. But that's the 'of parent's' part at the moment. If they are going to continue like this--I hope they split up or something. I rather enjoy staying out of this drama!llama.

Now, of Life. It's actually, fairly good. I'm completely joyful about everything, 'cept my family of course. My job is going good and delicious, Jchan's coming over Friday, and, well, nothing horrible has happened yet. I'm getting fun comics off of ebay, which is thrilling.
